1903 Electric Autocar

NER 1903 Petrol Electric Autocar: Steam ruled...or did it? In the days when steam ruled the rail, seas and factories, one railway found an alternative. In 1903 the North Eastern Railway built a railcar powered by electricity generated from a petrol engine - this, when the Wright brothers had yet to fly!

This project has been placed in the care of a dedicated trust to attract funding for a full restoration, set up by Stephen Middleton of Stately Trains and two colleagues. For more information, click:
